A suspected car thief reportedly breached the security of the Kano State Government House and stole a Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to the convoy of the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Monday, November 10, after the thief allegedly gained access through Gate 4 and drove the vehicle out through the main gate of the highly secured complex.

‎The theft of an official vehicle from inside the Government House, a supposedly secure government facility, points to a major lapse in the security architecture of Kano State.

‎Dawn Herald reported a similar, high-profile vehicle theft in September 2025, where an official vehicle was stolen from the premises of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

‎Insiders suggest that the security failure may be linked to reduced surveillance outside of official working hours and that the office complex is only patrolled only when the deputy governor is in office.

‎The driver of the vehicle has been interrogated and briefly detained, and the Chief Security Officer is reviewing CCTV footage to aid the investigation and vehicle recovery.
