China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, held a meeting with the National Security Adviser of Nigeria Nuhu Ribadu, where he assured the Nigerian government of China’s support in its counter-terrorism strategies and national development.

Ambassador Dunhai declared the position of China to any country interfering in Nigeria’s internal affairs, specifically cautioning against the wanton threat of sanction and use of force under the guise of religious freedom and human rights. The meeting was organized to address the geopolitical tension surrounding the internal security challenges of Nigeria.

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, had earlier warned against interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs following the U.S. President’s threat of military action and has promised to provide diplomatic support to Nigeria as it navigates the pressure from Washington.

Ambassador Yu Dunhai made this statement following the meeting with NSA Nuhu Ribadu, emphasizing respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and its chosen path to development.

‎We oppose any country’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of religion and human rights. We oppose the wanton threat of sanction and use of force – Dunhai

The Nigerian government has consistently denied the claims of religious genocide, stating that insecurity affects all citizens equally. The Nigerian government will likely use this backing to continue pushing back against the CPC designation and the threat of sanctions.
