The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has donated ₦50 million to the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team. The donation was made during a reception in Abeokuta, ahead of the team’s second-leg 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the Benin Republic.

The governor, who confirmed the donation on his verified Facebook page, described the donation as a commitment to empowering women through sports and also acknowledging the team’s record ten WAFCON titles.

In recognition of their inspiring performances and to further motivate them for the task ahead, we announced a support package of ₦50 million to the team – Governor Abiodun

This is the second time in four months that Governor Abiodun has financially rewarded the team, following a ₦20 million donation in June.

The governor stated that the presence of the team in Ogun State reinforces his administration’s goal of establishing the state as a hub for national sports development, including transforming the stadium into a “world-class sports hub.”

The Super Falcons are preparing to host Benin Republic’s Amazons at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, holding a 2–0 lead from the first leg of the WAFCON 2026 qualifier.

The head coach, Justin Madugu, stressed that the team remains focused on securing their qualification despite the first-leg advantage.
