A 30-year-old petty trader, Mamuda Zakari Yau, has been arrested by Bauchi State Police for allegedly stabbing and killing a motorcyclist, Basiru Mohammed, aged 25, in Bauchi.
The incident occurred on Thursday in the Zango Sa’idawa area, where Yau used a knife to fatally wound Mohammed and stole his red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number NNG 813 UM.
The victim managed to call for help, prompting residents to pursue Yau, who abandoned the bike and fled. Mohammed was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital but later died.
Police tracked and arrested Yau following intelligence from his recovered mobile phone. During interrogation, Yau confessed, that it was due to financial frustration and the need to raise money to “marry a third wife” that led him to the act.
Recovered items included the stolen motorcycle, a blood-stained knife, shoes, and Yau’s phone. Police confirmed he will be charged in court after investigations conclude.
