At least two police officers were shot dead during a raid on Zonkwa Police Station in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Friday evening.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the armed attackers stormed the station, located near Kamyim Hotel in Kurmin-Bi Zonkwa, firing sporadically as they tried to free suspects they believed were held there.
They believed that the suspects were being detained at the Zonkwa Police Station. By the time they discovered the suspects were not at the station, the havoc had already been done – the witness said
Video footage obtained by Daily Trust showed two uniformed officers lying lifeless on the floor inside the station.A crowd gathered at the scene after the attack, with residents expressing fear and frustration over the persistent insecurity in the area.
The security agency have since restored normalcy in Zonkwa, though the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
