Chaos erupts as Kano Pillars fans attack shooting stars players after late equalizer

A Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match between Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan descended into violence on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano following a dramatic late equalizer.

‎The match, held on the evening of October 12, was fiercely contested, with trouble erupting in stoppage time when Shooting Stars scored in the 94th minute to level the score at 1-1. The tension spilled over after the final whistle, as angry Kano Pillars supporters stormed the pitch, targeting Shooting Stars players and match officials.

‎Eyewitnesses reported that the chaotic scene specifically involved attacks on the visiting team’s goal scorer Adams Mustapha, the goalkeeper, and even the referee, who was reportedly beaten and had his clothes torn amidst the turmoil.

‎Video footage circulating online showed furious fans chasing players and officials as they sought safety. As of now, neither the league management nor Kano Pillars have released official statements addressing the incident.Football fans and social media users expressed outrage, calling the behavior unacceptable in 2025.
