The Nigerian Army’s 2 Brigade in Akwa Ibom State has condemned the killing of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, who died from severe burns allegedly caused by his wife during a domestic dispute at Willington Bassey Barracks on September 22, 2025.
Lieutenant Samson Haruna, the Regimental Medical Officer of 6 Battalion, suffered fatal burns during an altercation with his wife, Mrs. Retyit Obadiah Dalong Samson Haruna, at their residence in Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom State.
According to a statement released by the Army’s Assistant Director of Public Relations, Lawal Muhammad, the conflict escalated from a family crisis. Mrs. Haruna reportedly set fire to household properties, and Lieutenant Haruna was caught in the blaze.
The officer was initially treated at the Battalion Medical Facility and later evacuated to University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for advanced care. Despite efforts to stabilize him, Lieutenant Haruna passed away in the early hours following the incident.
This tragic case shows another earlier violent incident involving a soldier who shot dead Christopher Enobong Jimmy, a man who had offered him a lift.
The Nigerian Army strongly condemned the act of domestic violence and expressed condolences to the family of the late officer, urging calm as the military police continue their investigation.
