The Department of State Services (DSS) has released two female journalists from Jay FM in Jos, Plateau State, following their arrest on Saturday after filming a viral confrontation between a cleric and security personnel during the funeral of APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda’s mother.

Ruth Marcus and Keshia Jang went missing shortly after being taken away by security agents while covering the funeral service at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters in Jos. The journalists recorded an altercation between a cleric and security operatives which quickly gained traction after being posted on the station’s social media platforms.

Jay FM confirmed that at the time of their disappearance, efforts to identify the detaining agency or the journalists’ whereabouts were unsuccessful.

A source within the DSS disclosed that upon learning about the arrest, the Director-General of DSS, Oluwatosin Ajayi, ordered the immediate release of the two reporters.

The DSS also reached out to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), apologizing for the wrongful detention and pledging to discipline any officers found responsible.
