Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state has officially dissolved his cabinet, relieving all commissioners and affected public officers with immediate effect, citing a recent Supreme Court judgment on their appointments.
The announcement came on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers state’s capital, during a valedictory session marking Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary. Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the commissioners for their service over the past two years and emphasised the importance of national unity and progress.
The cabinet dissolution affects all commissioners and public officers whose appointments were impacted by the court decision. This development emanated from the period of transition for the state government as it prepares for appointments that align with the court’s directives.
Governor Fubara is expected to appoint new commissioners in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling, in order to ensure a smooth transition that upholds the rule of law. The governor’s office promised further updates on the reconstitution of the cabinet in the coming weeks.
