Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, has challenged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his repeated attempts to secure the presidency.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, Baba-Ahmed stated that Nigeria requires a new generation of leaders to solve the current national challenges. He criticizes the structural barriers that prevent younger candidates from competing.
Baba-Ahmed stated that Atiku has been an active presidential aspirant since his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) period in the 1990s.
Baba-Ahmed added that a whole new generation of competent Nigerians is ready to lead but remains sidelined by the current political structure.
When I was doing my NYSC, Baba Atiku was an aspirant, and in 2018 we contested primaries together. In 2023, we contested again… And for God’s sake, in 2027 again?. There are good Nigerians, people capable of solving Nigeria’s problems, but they are discouraged by the expensive, difficult, treacherous system full of godfathers and bad promises – Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed
He stated that the political environment of Nigeria is a treacherous system dominated by godfathers and prohibitive costs that discourage capable new leaders.
