A 46-year-old Nigerian man, Osemwengie Irorere, was shot and killed inside a transit bus at Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in Toronto, Canada.
The shooting took place around 7:00 p.m. at a transportation hub near Yorkdale Road and Allen Road. According to the Toronto Police Service, both the victim and the suspect had boarded a GO Transit bus shortly before the shooting occurred. After the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot but was apprehended by officers a short distance away, recovering a firearm from the suspect.
Officers arrived at the scene and located the male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were performed, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene – Toronto Police Service
Metrolinx, the agency operating the GO bus service, confirmed that other passengers and staff were safely evacuated from the vehicle.
The suspect, identified as Tyrel Gibson,(40) of Toronto, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Toronto police confirmed this incident as the first recorded homicide of the year.
