Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister and former Governor of Rivers State, while addressing a crowd in Okrika Local Government Area, described Fubara’s potential second term as a political burial for his own camp.

‎The Minister declared that a decision has been reached to prioritize support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and also working to ensure Fubara is ousted in the next election cycle.

‎The relationship between the two men, once characterized as godfather and protégé, collapsed shortly after Fubara’s inauguration in 2023. The crisis escalated in December 2025 when Governor Fubara formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

‎Wike characterizes Fubara’s leadership as a mistake that he intends to correct through the ballot box.

If we make another mistake, then we will go and bury ourselves politically. I will not allow myself to be buried. We have made a decision as far as Tinubu is concerned. The other one (Fubara) no way… There cannot be two markets in one day  – Wike

‎Wike dismissed Fubara’s recent defection to the APC as a survival tactic, warning that supporting President Tinubu would not guarantee the governor a return ticket.

‎Wike criticized Fubara’s inability to maintain a working relationship with local government chairmen and the State Assembly, questioning his capacity to lead the state ahead.
