Unknown gunmen abducted nine people in Inele-Ugoh ward of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State, on Friday, December 19. The victims include a woman and her three children who were traveling to a burial ceremony, as well as five farmers intercepted while working on their land.

This incident in Olamaboro follows the December 14 attack at the ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, where 13 worshippers were taken, and a November 30 raid on a church in Ejiba.

‎The Kogi East Neighbourhood Watch (KENW) stated that these groups operate in massive numbers, sometimes up to 200 bandits, splitting into smaller units to carry out their operation. Residents in Olamaboro are frustrated over the audacity of these armed men, despite the presence of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army at a nearby checkpoint, the gunmen managed to vanish into the thick forest before troops could arrive.

‎Community leaders have sent an SOS to the Federal Government, stating that ground troops are blind in the forests. They are calling for the deployment of drones and helicopters from Lokoja to track the movement of the bandits.
