A final year student of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, was killed in a car accident, at the Ekpoma-Auchi Expressway while marking the completion of his final examination paper.
The accident, which also left five other students injured, occurred around Ujoelen Junction in Esan Central Local Government Area.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), through the Sector Commander of the FRSC, Cyril Mathew, confirmed the fatality, stating that the crash occurred due to dangerous driving during their signing out procession.
According to the report, while the student was on the highway, he allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle and then crashed into a stationary vehicle. One unidentified student was killed on the spot, and five other students sustained different degrees of injuries.
The Sector Commander issued a warning to graduating students, urging them to prioritize safety and discretion during their celebrations. He advised students to conduct their celebrations within the confines of the campus and away from major highways. The Commander stressed the importance of remembering that there is life after graduation and that safety protocols must be observed.
