Bandits launched a raid into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday night, abducting six young girls and a 16-year-old boy from near the FCT-Kaduna border.

‎The victims were guests who had traveled from Kaduna State to Gidan-Bijimi in Bwari Area Council for a relative’s funeral. The raid occurred hours after President Tinubu announced a nationwide security emergency and ordered a massive surge in police recruitment and deployment.

‎Bwari Area Council, where the attack occurred, shares borders with the bandit strongholds of Tafa LGA in Niger State and Kagarko LGA in Kaduna State.

‎A local resident reported that vigilante members attempted to engage the bandits, who were armed with AK-47 rifles, but were forced to retreat due to the superior firepower of the terrorists.

‎The attack occurred despite the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, having recently directed the establishment of a special security sector in Bwari and the deployment of a joint security task force (Operation Sweep) comprising the Police, Army, and other agencies.
