Bandits launched a raid into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday night, abducting six young girls and a 16-year-old boy from near the FCT-Kaduna border.
The victims were guests who had traveled from Kaduna State to Gidan-Bijimi in Bwari Area Council for a relative’s funeral. The raid occurred hours after President Tinubu announced a nationwide security emergency and ordered a massive surge in police recruitment and deployment.
Bwari Area Council, where the attack occurred, shares borders with the bandit strongholds of Tafa LGA in Niger State and Kagarko LGA in Kaduna State.
A local resident reported that vigilante members attempted to engage the bandits, who were armed with AK-47 rifles, but were forced to retreat due to the superior firepower of the terrorists.
The attack occurred despite the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, having recently directed the establishment of a special security sector in Bwari and the deployment of a joint security task force (Operation Sweep) comprising the Police, Army, and other agencies.
