The Adamawa State Police has announced the arrest of three kidnapping suspects, Ahmadu Alhaji Halilu (24), Adamu Buba Balejo (21), and Hassan Alhaji Liman, just hours after the state government ordered the closure and deboarding of all secondary schools due to rising insecurity threats nationwide.
The Adamawa State Government, led by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, announced the conversion of all public and private boarding secondary schools to day schools on Saturday. This directive was a response to the recent mass abductions of students in Niger and Kebbi states, where boarding facilities were targeted by bandits.
It has been observed with great dismay that the target of the evil perpetrators is boarding secondary schools… I am directed by His Excellency… to deboard all boarding schools across the state, be it public or private schools – Dr. Umar Pella, Adamawa’s Commissioner for Education and Human Development
Adamawa Police Command Spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed the story;
Upon receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Intelligence Department, Yola, to investigate and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators
The arrests, confirmed by the police on Sunday, came from a complaint filed on November 19, by a resident of Song Local Government Area (LGA) who had received a threatening phone call demanding a N2 million ransom or risk facing death or kidnapped.
Residents are urged to remain calm, as the police authorities continue with the investigation.
