Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has invited Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the commissioning of constituency projects in her home state, a step toward mending their previously strained relationship. The event is set for Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State, to also celebrate her second anniversary in the Senate.
The invitation, personally signed by Akpoti-Uduaghan, was read by Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session in the Senate. It details that the commissioning ceremony will take place in Ihima, Okene Local Government Area, with the meeting point at Akpoti’s residence on Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street. Lawmakers traveling by air were advised to use the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding by road to Ihima.
Akpabio congratulated Akpoti in advance following the invitation reading, a gesture celebrated by senators across party lines.
This development is a starting point of reconciliation between the two politicians after a bitter dispute earlier this year.Their rift began in February over disagreements on seat reallocation during Senate plenary sessions, igniting a confrontation that led to Akpoti’s six-month suspension for alleged gross misconduct.
Since her reinstatement in late September, Akpoti has gradually resumed active participation in the Senate, including contributing to the Criminal Code (Amendment) Bill 2025.
The invitation by senator Natasha to Akpabio may offer opportunities to strengthen political alliances and focus on service delivery in Kogi State.
