Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has issued a warning to anyone planning to rig the 2027 governorship election in the state, telling them to write their wills, implying dire consequences for election fraud.
He declared that the will of God and the people will ultimately decide the election outcome. The governor made the statement at the Government House in Umuahia on Thursday during his regular “Alex Otti Speaks to Abians” session for October.
This statement responded to recent declarations by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who claimed the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take control of Abia in 2027. Otti stressed that while the constitution allows Kalu to run for governor, he must respect the rules.
I have heard some people around him say they must take over this state, they must write election results. My only advice to them is if they truly want to write results, they should write something else before that time – Otti
The governor described Kalu as a personal friend and younger brother, and has forgiven him for his past criticisms but however, Otti stressed the importance of maintaining peace and decorum in Abia State politics.
The governor stated that he remains loyal to the Labour Party and has no plans to defect to the APC, despite speculations following the recent defection of Enugu Governor Peter Mbah to the ruling party.
