Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered all commissioners to wear the symbolic ‘Asiwaju cap’ at Executive Council meetings, warning that anyone without it will be sent home. This directive was issued during the swearing-in ceremony of 20 new commissioners and board members on October 14, 2025.

The governor emphasized the importance of showing allegiance and respect to President Bola Tinubu by donning the ‘Asiwaju cap’, which has become a symbol of the president’s influence within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okpebholo tied the state’s recent political successes to the president’s support, stating that past election defeats were due partly to the absence of such backing.

He reminded the new appointees that their positions were earned on merit, not as political favors, and pledged zero tolerance for corruption or misconduct that could undermine the administration’s integrity.

Okpebholo concluded with a promise to sustain a corruption-free government and urged all appointees to remain committed to transforming Edo State through honest public service.
