The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has left Nigeria for the United Kingdom to receive medical care, officials confirmed on Tuesday, amid reports of his recent illness.
Edun departed Abuja on Monday night, first flying to Lagos before boarding a British Airways flight to London the same evening. Though earlier rumours suggested he suffered a stroke, Presidency sources have dismissed this, confirming instead that he is seriously ill but stable and recovering under Nigerian doctors’ care before leaving Nigeria.
A senior government official, speaking anonymously, said the minister’s health is being closely monitored.
Wale Edun’s absence will be felt at this year’s World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., which he will miss.
The President, Bola Tinubu, remains aware of Edun’s health condition, and there are currently no plans to replace him. This reassures the public that the ministry’s work will continue smoothly despite the minister’s temporary absence
