The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) has announced the arrest of a wanted Nigerian, Ikechukwu N., by authorities in Argentina.
Ikechukwu had been on INTERPOL’s wanted list for allegedly masterminding numerous romance scams affecting thousands of women worldwide. He was also suspected of leading a global cybercrime network operating from West Africa.
The Argentine authorities’ capture marks the first arrest of a Red Notice fugitive under the INTERPOL Silver Notice pilot project launched earlier this year.
The INTERPOL explained that the arrest occurred during Operation Jackal, launched in 2025 to trace and recover criminal assets linked to organized crime groups in West Africa.
This operation involves collaboration between police forces from various countries, including @PFAOficial and @seguridadpsa, with support from international agencies such as IFCACC, FIS, and INTERPOL Brazil.
INTERPOL mentioned that similar crackdowns have resulted in arrests across Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, aiming to dismantle cyber-enabled crime networks operating transnationally.
