Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar praised the recent unsealing of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office at the National Assembly, describing it on Tuesday as a victory against tyranny and a symbol of collective resistance.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate wing, had been inaccessible since March 6, 2025, following her six-month suspension over alleged violations of Senate rules. Despite the Federal High Court ruling the suspension “excessive and unconstitutional” on July 4, the legislator faced obstacles to resuming her duties, as the National Assembly maintained that legal proceedings were ongoing.

The reopening of her workspace, facilitated by Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, shows her formal return to legislative responsibilities. This development, according to Atiku, serves as a potent reminder that unity among Nigerians is crucial to overcoming oppression.

The former vice-president pointed to a troubling trend under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He cited the suspension of Governor Simi Fubara, lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly, and the targeting of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan as part of a calculated effort to weaken democratic freedoms.

The opposition pledges to continue its course legally and peacefully to restore and uphold democratic values.
