The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims that he traveled overseas for health reasons. Speaking during the launch of a roadwork campaign in Abuja’s Wuye district on Wednesday, he condemned those spreading falsehoods as politicizing everything.
Wike addressed rumors about his wellbeing, emphasizing that since his appointment in June, he has not taken extended leave without continuing work remotely. He clarified that his recent trip was solely for rest, devoid of official duties or paperwork.
At the event inaugurating the infrastructure project, the minister criticized how political agendas fuel unnecessary rumors. Wike also humorously cursed those circulating the misleading news, wishing them health challenges in return.
You see, the country has reached a point where everything becomes political. Who claims to have seen me in a hospital? I have no idea where they got that story from…one must live before satisfying others. If the office collapses, so be it. But I must also take time to recharge. May God help those spreading such rumors have heart attacks, and I will be the first to send condolences – Wike
Wike further urges Nigerians to look beyond hearsay and focus on tangible progress being made in the FCT.
