The vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has vowed to resign from office if Nigerians do not experience a positive economic turnaround within the first year of an Atiku-Amaechi administration.
Speaking during a television interview on Friday, the former Rivers State governor mentioned the economic blueprint of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He restates his commitment to public accountability, making it clear that he will step down if their leadership fails to perform.
“I’m sure the president knows my character, the presidential candidate knows my character, that if I’m not performing, I may likely leave government”, Amaechi stated.
He expressed confidence that Nigerians will quickly feel the impact of the ADC administration, stating that Atiku Abubakar will be celebrated by the masses for his governance approach within 12 months.
Amaechi during the interview, announced that an ADC-led government will introduce a production subsidy for petrol. This policy will make crude oil available to local refiners below the international market price, mandating a drop in retail pump prices.
“You either get the subsidy and bring down the price, or you buy at the international market rate,” he explained.
Amaechi revealed that the arrangement is designed to offer consumer relief at the pumps rather than inflate corporate profit margins for oil companies.
On agriculture, the vice-presidential candidate promised a total overhaul of existing policies to empower local farmers and to halt food importation. He argued that funding agriculture will generate employment, create wealth, and reduce insecurity across the country.
Meanwhile, Amaechi confirmed that the ADC will proceed with its political campaigns despite a major legal setback at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Justice Peter Lifu had on Thursday declared the David Mark-led caretaker committee illegal, subsequently nullifying the entire process that produced Atiku Abubakar and other ADC candidates for the upcoming 2027 elections.
The party has formally rejected the judgment, filing an appeal and an application for a stay of execution. The ADC urged the Independent National Electoral Commission not to take any further action while the legal challenge remains pending.
