The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a directive explaining how candidates seeking tertiary admission can confirm the approved O’Level and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subject requirements for their chosen courses.
The examination body advised applicants to verify their subject combinations before selecting a course or altering their academic programmes.
In a public advisory released on Friday via its JAMB Explained platform on X, the board emphasised that every tertiary institution has specific academic requirements for different programmes.
“Do you know that your subject combination might be the reason you don’t get admitted? You can have good scores in the UTME and O-Level results and still not be eligible for admission”.
JAMB directed candidates to utilize its Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) portal at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng to validate the criteria for their preferred institutions, in order to prevent admission disqualification.
JAMB also instructed candidates to access the IBASS website, navigate to the brochure section, and select the option to view all institutions. Candidates are to use the institution filter to locate their preferred university, polytechnic, or college of education, select their desired course, and click “View Details” to access the approved admission requirements.
The portal provides comprehensive details, including the mandatory O’Level subject requirements and the correct UTME subject combination for each selected programme.
JAMB urged candidates to rigorously examine these requirements to ensure their O’Level subjects, grades, and UTME combinations align with the stipulated institutional conditions.
The board advised that preemptively checking these requirements will help candidates avoid fundamental errors that could compromise their admission chances.
