A 26-year-old man identified as Anthony Cephas has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing a solar-powered streetlight in Ogun State.

Cephas was apprehended by the police at about 9:00 p.m. on October 30, 2026, in Mayegun area of Sagamu. Police officers tracked the suspect and successfully recovered the stolen streetlight alongside its solar panel, which were taken in as exhibits.

After the investigation into the theft along the Sagamu Interchange Expressway, the suspect was arraigned before a court on November 2, 2026. He was later found guilty and handed a three-year jail term.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement;

“Detectives of Sagamu Division, Ogun State Police Command, have arrested and prosecuted a 26-year-old man, Anthony Cephas, securing his conviction and subsequent sentencing to three years’ imprisonment for stealing a solar-powered streetlight along the Sagamu Interchange Expressway.”

Babaseyi added that the prosecution and sentencing of the suspect will serve as a deterrent to criminal elements vandalising public infrastructure across the state.
