Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have uncovered massive arms cache and destroyed a hidden armoury in Taraba State. The operation, conducted on Sunday, January 4, resulted in the seizure of assault rifles and explosives linked to a notorious regional criminal network.
Acting on intelligence, troops from the Joint Task Force established a roadblock in Zaki-Biam, Benue State, where they intercepted an associate of the suspected kingpin, John Ngata, identified in some reports as the kingpin’s wife, who was moving toward Gboko before being halted.
After an interrogation, the suspect led military personnel to a concealed underground armoury in Amadu village, located in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba.
After discovering the facility, soldiers recovered over a dozen assault rifles and hundreds of rounds of live ammunition, before destroying the armoury.
The operation was launched after actionable intelligence indicated the movement of an associate of notorious criminal kingpin John Ngata. The suspect voluntarily led troops to a concealed armoury… which was professionally destroyed to prevent further use – Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer
The raid prevented the circulation of a large volume of weaponry intended for coordinated attacks in the region.
The military has launched its search and spoil missions in the Takum LGA to locate the kingpin, who remains at large.
