Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo speaking at a New Year thanksgiving event on January 3, dismissed the traditional stigma attached to raising children alone. Recounting on the success of her daughter, Priscilla, who recently married Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, and her son, Felix, she gave credit to herself for her faith and resilience.
Iyabo Ojo began her journey as a single mother at age 21 after her three-year marriage collapsed in 2001. Over the last two decades, she has transitioned from a confused young mother to one of the most influential media personalities in Nigeria.
In 2025, she became a grandmother after the birth of Priscilla’s son, Rakeem.
Ojo officially nicknamed herself the “President General of Single Mothers”. “Single mother” is a title for women who have faced societal rejection for raising children independently.
“My daughter has succeeded, my son has succeeded, and my life is better. That is why I say I am the President General of single mothers. It wasn’t me; it was God – Iyabo Ojo.
She recalled her early days of almost running mad with parenting stress, stressing that her current status as a property owner in Lekki was once an unimaginable dream.
Beyond her biological children, Ojo revealed she has sponsored the education of over 1,000 children through her charitable initiatives.
