Tinubu departs for Europe, Abu Dhabi summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departed Lagos on Sunday, December 28, heading to Europe for a brief end-of-year break. The private visit serves as a precursor to his official state visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), scheduled for early January 2026.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the movement via social media, stating that the President remains committed to bridge the developmental goals of Nigeria with global sustainability frameworks.

The weeklong summit is an annual event that mobilises leaders from government, business, and society to chart the next era of sustainable development – Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President

The President is traveling at the invitation of the UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to participate in the prestigious Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026).

‎This annual summit, With the theme “The Nexus of next: All systems go”, is a global platform that brings together heads of state, CEOs, and civil society to accelerate sustainable development.

‎The President is to advocate for green investment and practical financing models for Nigeria’s energy transition, as well as securing partnership on key sectors.
