Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Friday, December 26, to visit the survivors of the bomb blast that rocked Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque at Gamboru Market. Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President visited several hospitals to commiserate with the injured and offer support to the families of the deceased.
Dawn Herald previously reported that the attack occurred during the evening Maghrib prayers on Wednesday, December 24, that led to the death of at least five worshippers, and many injured.
Shettima met with victims receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries. He stated that the Federal Government remains committed to the security of the North East and will ensure that the medical bills and rehabilitation of the survivors are fully covered.
The Borno State government has since deployed security around major markets and religious centers to prevent follow-up attacks during the remainder of the festive season.
