NAFDAC bans foreign Indomie vegetable flavour over hidden milk, egg allergens

‎The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert, banning the sale and consumption of a specific foreign batch of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles.

The directive was issued on Saturday, December 20, after a message was received from the French food safety authority, Rappel Conso, which discovered undeclared milk and eggs in the product.

‎NAFDAC warned that the product could enter the country through illicit trade, online purchases, or international travel.
‎
‎Food labeling regulations in Nigeria and internationally mandates the disclosure of allergens like milk and eggs, which can trigger life-threatening anaphylactic reactions in sensitive individuals. The presence of undeclared milk and eggs is dangerous to consumers with food intolerances or allergies, who might consume the product assuming it is purely plant-based.

‎However, NAFDAC clarified that Indomie products manufactured locally in Nigeria are safe and meet all regulatory standards. This ban applies strictly to the imported foreign brand flagged by French authorities.

‎NAFDAC’s Director-General has directed all Zonal Directors and State Coordinators to sweep markets and retail outlets to mop up any sightings of this specific foreign batch.
‎
‎NAFDAC stated that noodles remain on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List. Any foreign-labeled Indomie found in Nigeria is considered an illegal import and potentially unsafe.

‎Consumers who have purchased this flavour recently are advised to check the packaging for the “Made in Nigeria” stamp.
