Troops from the Nigerian Army’s Operation MESA have successfully rescued seven kidnapped victims in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, after a late-night operation targeting bandits.
The rescue was initiated after a call was received around 11:00 p.m. on Friday from residents of Yankamaye Cikin Gari. The troops, operating in conjunction with the Nigerian Air Force and the Police, engaged the bandits, forcing them to flee and abandon their captives.
The attackers, who had just murdered a 60-year-old woman, were forced to retreat under heavy fire, leaving four victims unaccounted for.
The fleeing bandits were pursued toward Rimaye before escaping toward the Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, stated that soldiers engaged the armed men with fire, which led to the abandonment of the captives. The Commander of the 3 Brigade commended the troops for their bravery.
The Commander called for residents to support security agencies with credible and timely information, to ensure the remaining four victims are recovered and to help eliminate the bandits.
