Muhammad Bagudo, the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, has been safely rescued after being held captive by gunmen for nine days.

The lawmaker was freed on Saturday evening through a joint operation conducted by combined security forces. State officials confirmed his release, stating that he is in good health and receiving necessary support.

The abduction of Muhammad Bagudo, who was seized on Friday, November 1, in his hometown of Bagudo Local Government Area shortly after evening prayers, shows the severe and pervasive insecurity gripping the North-West region. This region has seen a surge in attacks by armed groups, often referred to as “bandits,” who specialize in mass abductions for ransom, targeting villagers, travelers, and increasingly, high-profile political figures.

The rescue was confirmed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Tafida, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, on Sunday.

‎Alhaji Yakubu Tafida said the government is relieved to confirm that;

Hon. Samaila is in good health and high spirits. He is also receiving all necessary support and care

The Police Commissioner, Kotarkoshi, commended the security forces, describing their conduct as courageous and professional and stating that vital and accurate information from the public aided the operation.
