Police arrest suspected transformer, streetlight vandals in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected vandals responsible for the destruction and theft of electricity infrastructure across the state.

Operatives apprehended 38-year-old Aminu Musa in Gwaram Local Government Area while he was severing an armoured streetlight cable.

In a separate incident, officers rescued 26-year-old Laminu Sha’aibu from a mob in Auyo Local Government Area after he was caught in possession of stolen transformer coils.

According to the police, Sha’aibu confessed during interrogations that he spent three consecutive nights dismantling the transformer without being detected. Officers then rushed him to a nearby healthcare centre for medical attention due to injuries sustained from the attack before taking him into custody.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed that the exhibits were successfully recovered from the scenes and both suspects have been charged to court.

The State Commissioner of Police, Tijjani Murtala, commended residents for providing credible information and urged the public to remain vigilant against saboteurs targeting public utilities.
