The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has urged all accredited tertiary institutions nationwide to collaborate by updating student records on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session, aiming to streamline loan verification and application processes.
NELFUND’s spokesperson, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, today Thursday, described the data update exercise as proactive, stressing that accurate student information must be uploaded using admission numbers or other unique identifiers.
The update targets both returning and newly admitted students, ensuring their eligibility to apply and benefit from education loans.
NELFUND’s data collection involves verifying student information through the Student Loan Access System (SLAS) portal. Institutions must request access to SLAS to upload and verify student data, which ensures timely processing and disbursement of loan funds. Once verified, students’ loan statuses will update automatically to “Disbursed”, confirming payment.
This development aims to ensure transparency, efficiency, and accountability in loan disbursement, preventing any eligible student from being left behind as the loan application portal opens.
