A Kano magistrate court has ordered the remand of popular TikToker Ashiru Idris, known as Mai Wushirya, for two weeks at a correctional centre over viral videos deemed indecent involving a dwarf woman.

The court sitting at Court No. 7, headed by Judge Halima Wali, directed the continued custody of Mai Wushirya pending further hearing.

The TikToker was arrested last week by Kano State Censorship Board officials after videos surfaced showing him shirtless and involved in acts described as immoral and demeaning. Authorities say the videos violate Kano State laws that forbid the production and distribution of obscene or sexually suggestive content on social media platforms.

Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the Public Relations Officer of the censorship board, explained that the court also mandated the appearance of the female partner featured alongside Idris in the videos. Sulaiman revealed that despite initial refusal by Idris to cooperate in locating her, the court order is now expected to facilitate the woman’s return. Investigations point to the possibility that she fled to Zamfara State, and efforts are ongoing to bring her back to Kano to face trial together with the TikToker.
