Nigerian forces from the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI successfully neutralized eight members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in an ambush near Garin Giwa along the Baga-Cross Kauwa route in Kukawa LGA, Borno state. The operation took place on Monday, September 15, 2025.

Sources told the press that two of the militants killed were Modu Dogo Munzir from Dogon Chukun and Abu Aisha Qaid of Tumbun Mota. While several insurgents were wounded, some fled on foot, abandoning 14 motorcycles which were recovered by the troops. This encounter happened in the Northern Borno Senatorial District, roughly 180 kilometers from Maiduguri, the state capital.

According to security personnel who spoke on condition of anonymity, the troops thwarted an ISWAP attempt to disrupt their movement along the Baga-Cross Kauwa Main Supply Route during the early hours of the day. The militants met staunch opposition, resulting in insurgent losses including two Munzirs and one Qaid.

The retreating terrorists left behind vital equipment, further limiting their ability to mobilize and sustain operations in the area.
The military high command commended the troops for their dedication and urged them to maintain excellence despite the challenging security environment.
