Nigerian troops have killed more than 25 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters after stopping a massive attack on a military base in Kukawa, Borno State.

According to Major General Ibikunle Ajose, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, the terrorists launched a coordinated attack from four different directions, targeting the 101 Special Forces Battalion. Major General Ajose said the soldiers fought back with heavy weapons and air support, forcing the surviving attackers to flee.

“Yes, some terrorists attacked our base in Kukawa, but they were defeated. They suffered heavy casualties”, Ajose.

During the clash, troops recovered 14 bodies of the terrorists along with six AK-47 rifles and a cache of ammunition, but sadly, some soldiers lost their lives while defending the base.

Captain Mohammed Goni, a military spokesman in Maiduguri, assured the public that troops are currently searching the surrounding areas to track down the terrorists and stop them from regrouping.
