Kano gives retired workers 48 hours to vacate offices

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum directing retired civil servants who are still occupying government offices and collecting state salaries to vacate immediately.

Under the new directive, all Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Administration across state ministries, departments, and agencies must compile and submit full lists of personnel who have reached mandatory retirement by age or length of service. The commission set a deadline for senior administrative officers to turn in the records.

The crack-down follows a state civil service circular issued by the Head of Civil Service, instructing all retired staff to step down and hand over all official duties, files, and state-owned property to their immediate subordinates.

In an official statement signed by PCACC Acting Executive Chairman Hafsat Ada’u Kutama, the agency emphasized that remaining in office after retirement violates civil service regulations and inflicts avoidable financial losses on the state budget.

The anti-graft agency warned that any retired officer found drawing unauthorized salaries along with any administrative official who helped facilitate the payments will face investigation and prosecution.

The commission urged civil servants and members of the public to report any retired personnel still illegally holding onto government offices.

The PCACC has launched a confidential whistleblower reporting line in order to strengthen the enforcement.
