Farmers begins harvesting Sesame seed, melon seeds, yams in Taraba

 Farmers in Taraba state have started harvesting Yam, Sesame seed,Melon Seeds and groundnuts.
Areas where the harvest of some crops started include  Zing,Yorro,Ardo_kola,Bali, Gashaka, Gassol and Kurmi local government areas.
Our findings revealed that farmers in these areas have witnessed bumper harvest of Yam, Sesame seed,Melon seeds and groundnuts.
The harvest was attributed to early planting and uninterrupted rainfall in the areas where the crop harvested.
Ramatu Ali,a female farmer in  Nahuta village in Bali local government area, told our reporter that she planted Sesame seeds and Melon seeds immediately the rainfall started and luckily there was interrupted rainfall and her crops matured now she harvested her farms.
Ramatu,stated further that she will use part of the proceeds of the sale of her produce to plant Maize and white Bean in the farm
Ali Maihula another farmer in Bali stated that Sesame seeds, groundnuts and Melon seed was  harvested by farmers in the area and bumper harvest was witnessed.
He said he harvest his Sesame seeds and Melon seeds farms and he was satisfied with the harvest.
Ali, further explained that the pattern of rainfall  this year was different to what was obtained even though interruption of rainfall was witnessed in some areas  but however more  rainfall is being witnessed now.
Dauda John,a Yam farmer Yorro local government area told  our reporter that farmers in Yorro and Zing local government areas started harvesting Yam late June and bumper harvest was witnessed.
He said unlike last year in which poor harvest was witnessed due to harsh weather and lack of rainfall, however this year the situation was different adding  that the weather was favourable and there was enough rainfall which enabled crops  to matured.
Meanwhile foodstuffs like Raw Cassava,Yam,groundnuts,Irish potatoes ,sweet potatoes flooded markets across the state and that has further caused the crash of price of grains in the state.
