A devastating fuel tanker explosion has claimed multiple lives in Dan Magaji, Zaria, Kaduna State. The tragedy occurred on Monday morning around 8:30 a.m. near the Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass, between Kwangila and Dan Magaji.
According to reports, the accident for involved two tankers loaded with fuel and two passenger-filled Golf cars. The collision ignited a massive inferno, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and causing chaos along the busy highway. Eyewitnesses said at least five loud explosions followed the crash.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, confirmed that the incident was catastrophic. “All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” an eyewitness told Makama.
Emergency responders and security operatives arrived promptly, sealing off the area to prevent further casualties. Rescue teams worked to extinguish the flames and recover the remains of the victims amid the wreckage.
Authorities diverted traffic to alternative routes to ease congestion, as the affected section of the expressway remained closed during the operation. The intense fire reportedly destroyed both tankers and the two vehicles beyond recognition.
Officials are yet to release the exact casualty figure or the identities of the victims as investigations continue.
