Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, died early Monday at 90, just days after his birthday, ending a one-year reign, sources confirmed.

The monarch, who ascended the throne on July 12, 2024, as the 43rd Olubadan, passed away amid celebrations marking his 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary. His death was announced by multiple sources, including Channels Television and Naija News.

Olakulehin, born on July 5, 1935, succeeded Oba Lekan Balogun, who died on March 14, 2024, at 81. He received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, marking his role as a key traditional leader.

The Olubadan-In-Council nominated Olakulehin in April 2024, despite initial concerns about his health from Otun Balogun Oba Abimbola Ajibola. Olakulehin affirmed his fitness, assuming the throne after due process.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, with the Ibadan Traditional Council expected to provide details soon. Rashidi Ladoja, former Oyo State governor, is next in line to become Olubadan.
