Fifty-eight inmates from Kano State custodial facilities are sitting for the 2025 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination, supported by Governor Abba Yusuf’s funding, officials announced Sunday.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, confirmed the inmates’ participation in a statement by Public Relations Officer Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa. The state government covered their registration fees, enabling access to the exam.

This initiative reflects Governor Yusuf’s commitment to inmate welfare, rehabilitation, and reintegration, according to the NCoS. The funding aims to provide inmates with educational opportunities for a brighter future.

Kofar-Nasarawa expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, noting it boosts inmates’ morale and offers a second chance at education. The command emphasized creating a conducive environment for inmate reformation.

The NCoS Kano Command pledged continued efforts to support rehabilitation programs, crediting the state government’s partnership as vital to the success of such initiatives for inmates’ societal reintegration.
