In the early hours of Wednesday, athletes representing Ogun State at the 2024 Gateway Games staged a protest over unpaid allowances by blocking the main entrance of Babcock University, the designated athletes’ camp for the ongoing games.

The protest, which began as early as 5:00 a.m., disrupted vehicular movement and left athletes and officials from other states stranded outside the camp.

Sources revealed that athletes from other states, although not openly participating, have expressed solidarity with the Ogun State protesters, citing similar grievances over poor treatment and unmet obligations by the organizers.

The demonstration has drawn attention to broader issues surrounding the welfare and support of athletes at the multi-sport event.
