The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two suspected cases of the Ebola virus disease reported in Adamawa State have tested negative.
The suspected individuals were isolated in Yola after presenting symptoms of the virus early on October 30. Medical experts collected samples for comprehensive laboratory analysis, which returned negative after two rounds of testing.
The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Jide Idris, commended the Adamawa State Ministry of Health for its proactive approach, assuring the public that the agency would continue providing technical support to strengthen the statewide operations.
He advised the public to stay calm and to rely on official government communication channels rather than sharing unverified information.
“Ebola Virus Disease is a serious infectious disease that requires prompt identification, appropriate clinical management and effective infection prevention and control measures. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following a relevant exposure, should seek immediate medical attention and inform healthcare workers of any relevant travel or contact history”, Dr Idris.
The NCDC stated that the previously recorded index case in the Federal Capital Territory remains the only confirmed infection in Nigeria to date.
