Suspected kidnappers have abducted six persons, including two secondary school students, in a midnight attack on Nuru Suraj Estate in Millennium City, Kaduna State.

The incident has thrown the growing residential community into panic as security operatives intensify efforts to track down the fleeing assailants.

The attackers reportedly invaded the estate shortly after midnight on Tuesday, attacking two separate houses to abduct eight residents. Following the response and pursuit by military personnel, two elderly women were released, leaving six victims still in captivity. The remaining hostages include a man, his wife, their two children, and two teenage boys aged 14 and 13.

According to a report by Daily Trust, a resident of the estate, Maman Hamid, explained that the armed men breached the community through its second gate. Abdullahi Wada, the grandfather of the two abducted teenagers, confirmed the development, identifying the boys as students of Junior Secondary School I and II. Wada urged the government and security agencies to deploy the military as well as other security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of his grandchildren and the other victims.

“Anyone who has experienced something like this knows the kind of pain and distress the victims and their families are going through,” Wada said.

Based on the report, another resident, Muhammad Abbas, recounted hearing gunshots shortly before midnight, forcing his family to take cover in their room and contact neighbours for updates.

While the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to issue a formal press statement regarding the attack, a senior security officer confirmed that investigations are ongoing. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, alongside a tactical team, has also visited the scene to assess the security situation.

Millennium City, located on the outskirts of the Kaduna metropolis, has witnessed a series of security breaches in recent weeks. On October 6, troops successfully rescued a couple and their infant daughter kidnapped from Alrahus Estate within the same axis.

Similarly, on October 12, police operatives arrested eight suspected kidnappers and four alleged informants during joint operations around Millennium City and Maraban Rido, recovering a cache of arms including AK-47 rifles.

Following the rising security concerns, a Kaduna State Government delegation, led by the Chief of Staff, recently visited the community. The government officials urged residents to remain calm and provide credible intelligence to security agencies to help dismantle criminal networks and neutralise informants in the area.
