The Northern Senators Forum has called for a thorough investigation into the tragic killing of at least 26 persons by suspected bandits in the Binari community of Taraba State.
The lawmakers urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the heinous act.
The victims, which included women, children, and local vigilantes, were murdered on Friday in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area. The attackers struck shortly after Muslim worshippers had concluded their Juma’at prayers at a mosque situated near the vigilante group’s office.
After the assault, the forum demanded urgent security reinforcements across the agrarian community. They called on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to enforce joint operations in the region.
The lawmakers requested the deployment of intelligence-led patrols along the Kompany-Asusar route to prevent subsequent incursions.
The senators also called on the National Emergency Management Agency to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to families displaced by the violence.
In a condolence message titled ‘Condolence Message on Binari Attack and a Call for Action,’ the Chairman of the forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, expressed deep sympathy with the Taraba State Government and the bereaved families.
“On behalf of the Northern Senators Forum, we commiserate with His Excellency the Governor of Taraba State, the people of Taraba, and the bereaved families of Binari community in Karim-Lamido LGA over the barbaric attack of Friday 23rd October” .
Senator Yar’Adua added that the forum won’t be silent until the attackers face justice.
“We received with shock the murder of innocent worshippers, vigilantes, women and children shortly after Juma’at prayers, and we share in your grief at this difficult time. To the people of Binari, we pray that Allah forgives the departed, grants them Al-Jannah Firdaus as martyrs, heals the injured, comforts the bereaved, and restores lasting peace to Taraba State and Nigeria.”
He urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
