The Borno State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed its state House of Assembly candidate, Mohammed Bunu, over allegations of anti-party activities.
The state leadership penalised Bunu for allegedly circulating campaign materials bearing the logo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The posters featured the slogan “SABON TAFIYA, SABON SALO” alongside the photographs of both politicians.
According to the NDC State Deputy Chairman, Umar Fema, the candidate’s conduct violated the party’s constitution and established principles of discipline. The disciplinary process began at the Hausari Ward level, where the executive committee invited Bunu on October 23 to address the allegations, but he failed to appear.
After his absence, the ward secretary, Rabiu Umar, escalated the matter to the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) Working Committee. Bunu was summoned a second time on October 24 but again shunned the investigative panel.
The MMC Party Chairman, Adamu Ibrahim, subsequently endorsed the recommendation for dismissal and forwarded the dossier to the state leadership for final action.
The party has instructed Bunu to immediately stop parading himself as an authorised candidate or agent of the NDC.
“The appearance of Bunu alongside an opposing presidential candidate raised serious concerns regarding his political allegiance, loyalty, and ongoing commitment to the NDC.”
The party leadership clarified that the disciplinary action strips Bunu of his assembly ticket, and that any formal termination or expulsion from his general party membership will be evaluated separately.
