The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dayo Israel, has faced criticism after announcing the presentation of brand new 2026 Toyota Prado vehicles to party youth leaders.
According to the Cable, the SUVs were reportedly distributed to aid election mobilisation activities ahead of the upcoming polls.
Israel shared the development on Sunday, thanking the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her continuous support. He, however, deleted the post about three hours later due to public reactions, after failing to disclose the cost or the source of funding for the vehicles.
Before the post was taken down, the youth leader said:
“Today, I presented a brand new 2026 Prado to my committed selected youth leaders to aid their election mobilisation activities. I am grateful to my Mummy, H.E Mrs Oluremi Tinubu for her continuous support for the party structure under my leadership”.
He added that the supremacy of the party would show during the election period, promising to deliver results to the polling unit by polling unit.
The post immediately ignited reactions from citizens on X and across all social media platforms, who compared the importance of political gifts with the daily struggles of Nigerians.
Reacting to the development, an X user identified as Harmless wrote;
“Yesterday in Kaduna, Tinubu was blaming the opposition for the hunger and hardship in the country. Today, Dayo Israel, APC youth leader is casually dashing out 2026 Prado SUV to his fellow youth leaders”.
Another user, Prince Adeshina, raised concerns about the decay in critical infrastructure, stressing that many public hospitals lack basic MRI machines while political associates receive expensive vehicles.
Meeanwhile, members of the opposition criticised the move as insensitive to national realities, adding that the action is an embarrassment to the government.
