The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted 50 stolen railway sleeper clips and arrested two suspects connected to the vandalism of public infrastructure in Kano State.

The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Shamsu Isyaku and 40-year-old Shehu Yakubu, were apprehended following an operation in Kanwa Village, Madobi Local Government Area. Isyaku is alleged to be the principal suspect, while Yakubu is accused of purchasing the stolen railway materials.

Briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters on Thursday, the Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, confirmed the operational success and stated that a manhunt has been launched for a fleeing accomplice, as investigations are ongoing to recover 205 missing clips.

“During the operation, 50 railway sleeper clips were recovered from the suspects. Meanwhile, one Saleh Kanwa, who is also linked to the case, is currently at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him,” Agalama said.

Agalama warned residents against receiving or trading in stolen infrastructure materials, stating that anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.

He advised the public to support the agency with credible information, adding that the arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
